Physical and sport education enables the development of fitness, skills and knowledge related to health and wellbeing. The 60-minute weekly session covers the following areas: Fundamental, Gross and Fine motor skills and modified sports and major games.Students in Prep and Years 1 & 2 will develop and refine basic motor skills, namely, running, jumping, skipping, catching, throwing, kicking, rolling, balancing, twisting and turning. Those students in Years 3 - 6 will learn to use these skills and more complex skills in, increasingly complex situations, from simple games through to a variety of sports.Physical education is a vital part of each child's physical, social and emotional development. Students benefit from regular physical skill development and regular participation in a wide variety of sporting activities.Swimming Program
All students are provided with the opportunity to participate in an intensive swimming program conducted by trained swimming instructors provided by the Aquatic Centre.Year 3 - 6 Athletics and Cross Country
Students in Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to represent the school in the District Athletics Carnival and the District Cross Country Competition.Year 5/6 inter school sport
William Ruthven Primary School is a member of the Keon Park District School Sports Association which runs both Summer and Winter sports competitions for 5/6 students.
