Parent & Carer Helpers

William Ruthven Primary School very much values and welcomes parents and carers to help in our classrooms, around our school and on our committees. To find out ways you can help at our school, please speak to your child's teacher or to our Principal, Donald Eddington.

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

To be able to assist in classrooms and atttend excursions, volunteers need a current Working with Children Check. All people involved in child-related work are subject to a screening process. This process is mandatory as a means of keeping all children in our school safe.

The process for applying for a Working with Children Check in Victoria is completed online. It is free for Volunteers and is valid for 5 years. Please visit the Working With Children Check website.

COVID-19 vaccination requirements

Only volunteers and visitors working on school sites who have provided information that they have had their third dose or are excepted persons are allowed to work onsite after 25 February 2022.

For visitors and volunteers working on school sites that became fully vaccinated after 25 October 2021, the deadline is 15 March 2022.

The following limited exceptions apply when attending a school:

  • To administer medical treatment to their own child when the treatment cannot be administered by the school.
  • To collect their child who is unwell and cannot leave the school building unaccompanied by their parent/carer.
  • For a short time that does not involve sustained contact with staff or students (e.g., to collect a completed project).

This requirement applies to all school activities inside school buildings, including but not limited to, kindergarten transition activities, tours, graduations, fetes and school theatre and music production. All adults attending these events, regardless of whether they are held indoors or outdoors, must be vaccinated, in line with community requirements.
